Pricing & billing

How credits work, subscription plans, refunds, invoices, rollover, and academic discounts.

Last updated

Can I downgrade my subscription?

Yes. You can change to a lower plan at any time. The new plan will take effect on your next billing cycle. If you accidentally upgraded or downgraded, support can help correct it.

Can I get invoices or receipts for my payments?

Yes. All invoices and receipts can be downloaded from your billing page at any time. This includes subscription payments and one-off credit purchases. You can add your business details including tax ID to the invoice as required.

Can I pay by bank transfer or wire?

Yes — pay-as-you-go credits can be purchased by bank transfer (wire) when card payment isn't a fit for your finance process.

Pricing and minimums

  • €15 per 100 credits
  • Order in multiples of 100 (so 100, 200, 300, etc.)

Bank details

  • Account name: Automatic Eye Ltd
  • IBAN: BE93905076393567
  • Bank: Wise, Rue du Trône 100, 3rd floor, Brussels, 1050, Belgium

When you make the transfer, please include your Handwriting OCR account email (or another reference we can match against your account) in the payment note. This is what lets us credit the right account.

Timing

Once we receive the funds, your account is credited within 24–48 hours. Bank transfers between countries can take a few extra days to settle on the bank side, so plan ahead if you have a tight deadline.

For credit-card-friendly options or recurring subscriptions, pay through the dashboard instead — credits are added instantly. If you have a specific finance requirement (purchase orders, custom invoicing, multi-step procurement), get in touch and we'll work something out.

Can I purchase credits without a subscription?

Yes. If you prefer not to subscribe, you can purchase a one-off block of credits instead. This is ideal for project-based work or situations where a subscription doesn't fit your needs.

Can I upgrade my subscription at any time?

Yes. You can upgrade to a higher plan whenever you need more volume.

Can my credits last longer than one month?

Yes. Our Pay-as-you-go credits are valid for 12 months, so they’re a good option if you need longer usage periods. For large academic or enterprise projects, we can also extend credit validity as part of a custom plan.

Do credits roll over to the next month?

Subscription credits reset at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over to the next month — each plan renews with a fresh allowance.

If you need credits that last longer than a single month, you have two options:

  • Pay-as-you-go credits are valid for 12 months from purchase.
  • Top-up credits (extra credits added on top of an active subscription) are valid for 60 days from purchase, as long as your subscription stays active.

Free trial credits don't expire while your account is active. We're evaluating rollover for subscription credits based on user feedback — let us know if it's important to your workflow.

Do you charge extra for tables, extractors, or specific document types?

No. All processing actions—transcription, tables, and extractors—use the same credit system. Each page counts as one credit regardless of how you process it.

Do you offer academic or research discounts?

We do not currently have a dedicated discount program for academic or research institutions. However, if you're working on a project for historical preservation, community documentation, or similar initiatives, contact us and we can discuss options.

Do you offer custom pricing for very large projects?

Yes. For high-volume academic, business, or archival projects, we can offer custom pricing based on expected volume and workflow. If you know your approximate page count, we can create a tailored proposal.

Do you offer refunds?

Refunds are issued for billing errors, duplicate charges, or unintended plan changes. For standard subscription periods, refunds are not typically provided, as capacity is provisioned based on active subscriptions. If something seems wrong with your billing, reach out and we’ll take care of it.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel anytime from your subscriptions page. Cancellation stops future renewals, and your current plan remains active until the end of the billing period.

How does your pricing work?

Pricing is credit-based — one credit transcribes one page or image, regardless of length, language, or word count.

Pay-as-you-go

Buy a one-off pack of 100 credits for $15 (US$0.15 per page). Credits are valid for 12 months from purchase. Pay-as-you-go is great for one-off projects or testing the service before committing.

Monthly subscriptions

Plan Monthly Credits/month Includes
Starter $19 / £19 / €19 250 Transcription, Translation, API
Pro $59 / £49 / €59 1,000 + Tables, Custom Extractors
Business $499 / £399 / €490 10,000 + Team access (5 members), DPA

If you exceed your monthly allowance, top-up credits are available at your tier's per-page rate (cheaper than pay-as-you-go) and remain valid for 60 days.

Annual plans

Annual plans cost 10× the monthly price — effectively two months free. The annual rate also unlocks lower per-page top-up pricing.

Free trial

Every new account starts with 5 free trial credits that don't expire while your account is active. Trial credits include API access and most core features so you can evaluate accuracy on your own documents.

For full pricing including localised currencies and per-page top-up rates, see the pricing section.

I need more volume than your enterprise plan allows. Can you support that?

Yes. We’re happy to create custom high-volume plans tailored to your workload. Please get in touch with your requirements.

If I delete a document, do I get the credits back?

No — deleting a document doesn't return the credits used to process it. Credits are charged when a page processes successfully, not based on whether the result is still stored in your account.

What gets refunded automatically

  • Failed pages — if a page fails to process due to a system error, that credit is automatically refunded (you only pay for what comes out the other side).

What doesn't get refunded

  • Successfully processed pages — even if you delete the document afterwards, or decide the result wasn't useful for your workflow.
  • Pages with poor accuracy due to source quality — a faded scan that produces patchy output is a source-document issue rather than a service error, and isn't a refund situation. Our tips for better OCR results walk through the most common fixes.

Before deleting

Always download your transcription before deleting the source document — once it's deleted, the result is removed too, and we can't recover it. If you want to free up storage but keep results accessible, export to DOCX, PDF, or JSON first and store the export elsewhere.

If you've deleted by accident and need help, get in touch — we can sometimes help if it's caught quickly enough.
